The Fiber Optic Technician is responsible for the installation, splicing, termination, and testing of fibre optic (FO) cables and systems across the EACOP project sites in Tanzania. Working under the supervision of the Telecom Engineer and Commissioning Supervisor, the FO Technician ensures that all fiber optic installation and commissioning works are executed safely, precisely, and in full compliance with project specifications. This role involves hands-on field execution of FO splicing (up to 96 cores), OTDR and power budget testing, fiber patching, and supporting the integration of telecom systems reliant on FO backbone infrastructure.

Requirements
Proficiency in FO cable installation, fusion splicing, termination, and testing.
Skilled in operating fusion splicers, OTDR, power meters, light source, and fiber identifiers.
Understanding of FO standards: TIA/EIA-568, IEC, ITU-T G.652/G.655, and grounding/bonding practices.
Knowledge of telecom integration: how FO backbone supports CCTV, ACS, PAGA, Wi-Fi, IDS, telephony, VHF systems.
Strong awareness of safe FO handling practices in oil & gas environments.
Technical Diploma or Certification in Telecommunications / Electronics / Fiber Optics.
Formal Fiber Optic Splicing & Testing Certification (from OEM or accredited training body).
ATEX/Ex Awareness for hazardous site work.
OSHA or equivalent HSE training.
Basic First Aid & Fire Safety.
Others/Extra Details
Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience in FO splicing, termination, and testing in oil & gas, pipeline, or infrastructure
projects.
Demonstrable background with large FO cable counts (48–96 cores).
Experience documenting FO test results and preparing as-built packages.
Familiarity with telecom completions processes (ICAPS, OPERCOM, or equivalent).
